Chetan Tierra
Chetan Tierra
performed for GCPI before but did not attend the course. In 2004 Chetan
was a GCPI participant. His repertoire for study at 2004 GCPI was
Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 111 and Brahms Paganini Variations. Book I.
Chetan Tierra, age 20, was born and raised in Santa Cruz,
California. His first lessons came from his father at age 4. His
teachers include Antonio Pompa-Baldi, with whom he currently studies at
the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Hans Boepple of Santa Clara
University (age 12 through 18). He also has studied with Pawel Skrzypek
(at the Warsaw Piano Workshop, Poland, and the Gold Country Piano
Institute), Alvin Chow (at the Oberlin Conservatory, Ohio), Bruce
Murray (at the Summer Music Festival at Brevard, North Carolina), Peter
Serkin, Barbara Wilkins, and Junghee Spicer, and attended the Aspen
Music Festival. He has won many competitions including: Winner--MTAC
Solo Piano Competition, Winner--Brevard International Music Festival
Concerto Competition, Winner--San Francisco Young Pianists Competition,
2nd Prize--Brevard International Music Festival Piano Competition, 2nd
Prize--State of California Bartok Piano Competition, and was the only
freshmen finalist in the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto
Competition. He gave his first recital at age eight followed by many
more in the U.S., and was presented in a recital in Warsaw, Poland. He
has performed with the Santa Cruz Symphony, the Transylvania Symphony
Orchestra, and has scheduled several future orchestral engagements. Mr.
Tierra is currently a second-year student at the Cleveland Institute of
Music.
