Maki Noyama

Maki was a student of Lee Kum-Sing in Vancouver until she graduated from the Academy of Music there. She is now studying for an advanced degree in music at Tokyo University. At 2004 GCPI she studied Beethoven’s 32 Diabelli variations and op. 13 in c minor. Her website is mostly in Japanese but there are some nice pictures.

Here are Maki's answers to GCPI questionaire

Now you’re working on a higher degree. What courses does a Japanese Music student take.

I’m working on the master degree right now. *Japanese music students takes music history or score reading or laguage: (English, German, French etc.) or ensemble and so on at the college.

Have you had any experience with other musical instruments?

I’ve never tried other instruments. But I love to sing.

Who is your favorite composer? For playing?

Beethoven

For listening?

Schubert

Your English is good. Does your family speak English?

No, they don’t speak but I really love to speak English and communicate with people even I don’t speak well. (But I don’t think that my English is rich……)

Did you study it in school?

I started to study English when I was a highschool student at school. But we studied grammar much (not conversation).

Do you have sisters and/or brothers?

I have a brother and a sister

What ages?

My brother is 25 years old and sister is 21 years old.

Are they musical?

They used to play the piano when they were kids. My brother also used to play the classical guitar when he was a younger. My sister also plays the violin.

If not, what do they like to do?

My sister used to studied the violin very hard when she was younger. She wants to be a doctor and she has just entered to the medical school last year. She still plays the violin and loves to play. My brother wants to be a lawyer.

Do you like to read? Who is you favorite author?

Yes, I like to read. I like essays and novels. I don't get any ideas about my favorite author right now....

What are your interests other than music?
Sports?

Yes.

Any kinds of !

Do you play?

I used to play when I was younger (not now....)

Our local journal has a section on food. What’s your favorite dinner?

Anything. I feel good, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Korean etc!

Breakfast is a problem for many Americans. What do you eat for breakfast?

I eat breads sometime and sometime eat. Depends on my feeling!

Do you cook?

Yes.

If so, what do you like to cook?

Sweets!

Does your family have a favorite recipe?

Maybe some of Korean food....?

Well......hard to explain in English for me......I better cook for you....!

Is there anything else about yourself you’d like to tell us?

I'm excited to visit the city and meet people from the institute.
