Master Instructor, Lee Kum-Sing
Biography & Credentials
Professor Lee Kum-Sing is currently Head of the Piano Department at the
Vancouver Academy of Music and also Professor of Piano at the University of
British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Many of his students are now actively
concertizing and recording and have been frequent prize winners in numerous
major national and international competitions.
Professor Lee is also well sought after internationally as a teacher.
For many years, he has been conducting master classes and has been on faculties
of summer schools in Holland, Poland, France, Belgium, Italy, USA and Canada. As
well, he is a visiting professor to music colleges and conservatories in Japan,
Cuba, Poland and South-East Asian countries.
For over three decades, Professor Lee Kum-Sing has earned a reputation as
a pianist from audiences and critics in North America, Europe, Asia and
Australia as a soloist as well as in duos and in chamber music. Amongst his
critically acclaimed reviews, he has been credited for bringing back the "Grand
Manner" of the piano art, praised as a "keyboard poet", and interpreting Bartok
with "truly Hungarian diction and temperament". He has been featured with BBC,
Australian and Canadian Broadcasting Corporations as well as Asian and European
radio and television recordings.
In addition to his numerous teaching engagements, he continues to
serve as a jury member in international piano competitions, including the
prestigious International Chopin Competition in Warsaw and the Queen Elisabeth
International Piano Competition in Brussels.
